Blessed with the best snowfall record in the state, Winter Park, CO is where expert skiers go to challenge Mary Jane and Vasquez Bowl. And those are just a couple of the mogul terrains that you can expect to find there that will give you a run for your money. Touted as the toughest runs in the whole of Colorado, Winter Park is notorious for its high cliffs, extreme steeps, and tricky trees. If you love skiing in these conditions, you’ll probably love to up the ante with bowl skiing, where Mary Jane’s bump runs have led to the maxim: No Pain, No Jane.

The Steeps of Mary Jane

For many skilled skiers, mogul skiing is their favorite Winter Park Colorado things to do. The freestyle skiing is best suited to Mary Jane’s steeps. And if you still feel adventurous, the off trails will get your heart pumping and your knees thumping. The Challenger chairlift has some trails that most skiers swear by. Mary Jane still has some hidden gems such as the black diamond runs of the Iron Horse chairlift. They’re not that long, but the rush they give the skiers is undeniable. And when your chest is bursting, your thighs are aching, and you’re reveling in the exhilaration of the run, only then would you know that Jane’s pain is well worth it.

Vasquez Cirque – Winter Park Colorado Things To Do

You can access this trail through the Panoramic Express chairlift. The runs are wide open, and the chutes, steeps, and snow conditions make this one of the most popular trails among thrill-seeking adventurers. The trees and cliffs, in particular, require some technical skiing skills that challenge even the most advanced skiers. Vasquez Cirque also has black diamond runs, the longest one is Thunderbird, and you can get there using the Eagle Wind lift.

Fast and Furious Groomers

Use the Zephyr and Pioneer Express chairlifts to get to various groomers that range from green to black. Not all of them are challenging though. Some trails are good for the whole family regardless of skill level. If you’re traveling in a group, this is the place to bring them to enjoy some exciting runs. Some runs such as Zephyr’s Balch are good for warming up. From there you can pick either the Pioneer’s Ace, Eights, or Gambler, all black diamond, for serious skiing.
