Sledding and snow tubing are wonderful winter activities that the whole family can enjoy, and Winter Park is brimming with hillsides and tubing parks that are ideally suited for such recreation. When staying in one of our Winter Park rentals, such as this charming luxury townhome, snowtubing is always nearby! Read on below to learn more about sledding and snow tubing in Winter Park, CO!

Family-Friendly Fun in the Snow

For families with young children who can’t ski or snowboard quite yet or who simply want a more relaxed pace for their wintertime fun, Winter Park tubing and sledding are fantastic options for enjoying the snow.

The Coca-Cola Tube Park is located at Winter Park Ski Resort’s base village, immediately adjacent to the Vintage Hotel. What makes this park stand out from other parks for snow tubing in Winter Park, CO is its four separate lanes with banked curves, in addition to having a covered conveyor lift that makes pulling your tube or sled uphill much less of a chore. The Hill House on-site also serves snacks, fresh-baked cookies, gourmet hot chocolate, and a select amount of bar offerings to keep you fueled and energized.

The park is open from late November through mid-April. Coca-Cola Tube Park operates from 10:00am to 6:00pm during the regular season and closes an hour earlier during the late season from late March to mid-April. Holiday hours are from 9:00am to 6:00pm for a day ticket and from 7:00pm to 8:00pm for an evening ticket.

Another famous Winter Park tubing locale is the Historic Fraser Tubing Hill. This hill is not only groomed, but is also lit up at night, allowing visitors to enjoy themselves well into the evening. Fraser Tubing Hill also has a lift and a warming house.

Grand Lake Nordic Center and Hideaway Park both have free Winter Park sledding and tubing on their designated hills, making them an excellent choice when you’re trying to save money. And while tubing at Snow Mountain Ranch isn’t entirely free, tubes are included with the basic day pass fee. Devil’s Thumb Ranch also has its own sledding hill, staffed during the weekends only but still available throughout the week through the Nordic center.

On the Hunt for Hot Cocoa

Now for our guests who live in warmer climates, the restorative powers of an excellent cup of hot chocolate may not be something you have considered before but trust us, its benefits are virtually life changing during the coldest days of winter, and there is no better time to experience its powers than after a day of sledding and snow tubing in Winter Park! And after living nearly our entire life in the area, we have narrowed down your choices to the following, so pay close attention and be sure to keep to the places listed. Nothing is more disappointing than a mediocre cup of cocoa, and we are here to help you find the best!

Waffle Cabin Winter Park Village, 115 Parry Peak Way #100

The smell of waffles may be what brings you in the door of the Waffle Cabin, but its their hot chocolate that will keep you coming back time after time! Silky smooth and containing the perfect chocolate to marshmallow ratio, the hot cocoa mustache it leaves is guaranteed to bring your children to giggles.

Rocky Mountain Roastery Café, 516 Agate Avenue, Granby

Coffee drinkers may not always understand the appeal of a good cup of cocoa, but the wonderful people at Rocky Mountain Roastery Café do, offering the sweet treat for those who need the comfort this beverage offers. Mom and Dad can enjoy their caffeinated beverages if they choose, but the littles have the right idea: always choose hot chocolate when it is available!

Your Winter Park Escapes Vacation Home Away from Home

After a day on the hills of Winter Park, chances are all tired families want to do is go home, so we are going to share our favorite hot chocolate recipe with you right now! You will need two cups of whole milk, ¼ cup sugar, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 cup chocolate chips (we LOVE Ghirardelli’s semi-sweet chips, but any type will do), 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and either marshmallows or whipped cream. Both add the perfect finishing touch, so it’s just a matter of preference. Bring the milk to a simmer in a small saucepan, whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar, stirring until smooth, and then add the chocolate chips and vanilla, stirring until the chocolate is completely melted. Top with the marshmallows or whip cream and prepare to be amazed; this hot chocolate will change your life!
