Christmas Dinner
Take a break from everything, including the stress of preparing the holiday meal at home. There are a variety of restaurants around Winter Park that are serving up the traditional meal. Contact your restaurant of choice for details like dates, times, reservations, and pick up or delivery options. If you can’t go a year without preparing and serving the feast, turn to your vacation rental’s fully equipped kitchen. You’ll find most of the basics on hand for creating and serving the delicious meal. Best of all, our rentals are just moments from grocery stores stocked with all the trimmings for your holiday meal.
Christmas Services
If you wish to attend Christmas Eve or Christmas Day religious services, there are many local worship centers waiting to welcome you. Choose the one that suits you best, then contact them for dates, times, and locations of services.
Winter Sports
The Winter Park Ski Resort has some of the best slopes in the area, with runs appropriate for beginners all the way up to the most advanced skiers. Experts looking for some different ski experiences may want to explore the backcountry, or even the thrill of helicopter skiing – where you jump from a helicopter and ski your way down the mountain. Other interesting winter and Christmastime activities include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, or the serene relaxation of a sleigh ride.
Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade
Celebrate Christmas in a way only a ski resort town can! The Winter Park tradition returns to light up the mountain. The ski patrol and other volunteers ski down the mountain while they light up the night. Take the Winter Park Transit shuttle and get there early and grab a spot near the bonfire. The event typically begins at 5:30 p.m., with a non-denominational service after the parade at West Portal.
New Year’s Eve
Ring in the new year, Winter Park style. Bundle up and hop on the Winter Park Transit shuttle to The Lift. Enjoy activities like sledding, snow activities, kid-friendly activities, and more. There is free hot chocolate and more leading up to the fireworks. Time for the celebration has yet to be announced.
Scenic Snowcat Tour
Skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and more are definitely on your Christmastime itinerary. Add a snow experience that’s a little different from the norm this Christmas in Winter Park. Get out and explore the snow-blanketed terrain of Winter Park on a Snowcat. Tours are 90 minutes and cut through the snowy terrain of the Fraser Valley. You’ll learn about the area, including local flora and fauna – and maybe even spot wildlife. A Gondola ticket is included so you can continue exploring the mountain at your own pace.
Train Ride
All aboard for a different way to see some places a rental vehicle can’t reach. Everyone in the group will enjoy a train ride on an old-time steam or diesel locomotive on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. The railroad is about 45 minutes from Winter Park and brings Colorado’s scenery and history to life in a way everyone will love. The loop is 3.1 miles long and climbs 640 feet over mountainous terrain for a breathtaking view of the area. This Christmas, you can take a special ride including Santa’s Rocky Mountain Adventure, Santa’s Lighted Forest, or the Victorian Holiday Celebration. Book tickets online at the railroad website. There are various dates for each special ride throughout December. The train is not available Christmas Day.
Fat Tire Mountain Biking
The Rocky mountains that surround Winter Park provide a variety of terrain for a unique riding experience this Christmas. There are over 600 miles of trails winding through the area that are fit for all levels of biker. Explore the Arapaho National Forest, or the trails of Devil’s Thumb Ranch or Snow Mountain Ranch. For an easier time, look for compacted roads where the snow has been compacted by motorized vehicles. Level up and head out on a packed trail, typically compacted by snowmobiles and skiers, or challenge your skills on singletrack trails – trails created by other fat tire bikers, snowshoe users, and skiers.
