Plan a Trip to Winter Park in 2024

Plan a getaway with loved ones in 2024 to a four-seasons wonderland resort town like no other. Take in the breathtaking landscape of Colorful Colorado. The Centennial State is dotted with many cozy mountain towns that offer plenty of activities, attractions, and more. Create a unique, fun, and memorable trip to Winter Park in 2024 when you point your compass and pack your bags for a stay in our beautiful area.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Take to the skies over the beautiful scenery of Winter Park and the surrounding area in 2024. Grand Adventures offers hot air balloon rides that take you high above the mountains and around the Winter Park and Fraser Valley area. Get a bird’s eye view of the Continental Divide, Rocky Mountain National Park, Fraser River, and more. Flights take off at sunrise, but the views are worth the early wake up call. Celebrate the flight with a champagne toast after landing.

Water Sports

Should your 2024 trip to Winter Park come during the warmer months, up the adventure with water sports. Book a whitewater adventure along the Colorado River where you and your group can navigate mild to moderate (Class II and Class III) whitewater rapids on a half-day or full-day rafting or kayaking trip. Make sure to pack your water gear, and store your valuables and anything you don’t want to get wet in a dry bag or leave them at your accommodations. For a calmer water experience, choose stand up paddleboarding, where you’ll enjoy a view of the water ahead and distant mountains, or a head to a nearby lake for swimming and boating sports.

Winter Sports

For your winter retreat in 2024, the Winter Park Ski Resort has some of the best slopes in the area. They offer runs appropriate for beginners all the way up to the most advanced skiers. Experts looking for some different ski experiences may want to explore the backcountry, or even the thrill of helicopter skiing – jump from a helicopter and ski your way down the mountain. Other interesting winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, or the serene relaxation of a sleigh ride.

Hiking

There are hundreds of trails and loops perfect for beginners all the way up to the most advanced hikers in Winter Park. Lace up your hiking shoes and wind through the Arapaho National Forest to see Saint Mary’s Glacier, Monarch Lake, or Loch Lomond. There are trails fit for the kids, as well as trails that allow you to bring furry family members, bikes, or even horses.

Moffat Tunnel West Portal

The railroad and water tunnel were designed by industrialist David Moffat. It paved the way for dealing with the transportation costs related to severe snow conditions. The tunnel cuts through the Continental Divide in Colorado and provides a “West Portal” you can explore. If luck is on your side, you’ll see a coal train using the tunnel to move its load.

Festivals

It seems there’s always something going on in Winter Park in 2024, to celebrate the season, arts and culture, and more. No matter what time of year you come, you’re sure to find something to celebrate right along with the locals. Make sure to check the town event calendar before coming and throughout your stay so you don’t miss out on your favorite celebrations.

Train Ride

All aboard! Take a different mode of transportation to see some places a rental vehicle can’t reach. Everyone in the group will enjoy a train ride on an old-time steam or diesel locomotive. The Georgetown Loop Railroad is about 45 minutes from Winter Park, but worth the drive. It brings Colorado’s scenery and history to life in an unforgettable way everyone will love. The loop is 3.1 miles long and climbs 640 feet over mountainous terrain for a breathtaking view of the area. Take a special ride including Santa’s Rocky Mountain Adventure, Santa’s Lighted Forest, Victorian Holiday Celebration, and many more throughout the year. Book tickets online at the railroad website.

Fat Tire Mountain Biking

The Rocky Mountains that surround Winter Park provide a variety of terrain for a unique riding experience in the winter months. There are over 600 miles of trails winding through the area that are fit for all levels of biker. Explore the Arapaho National Forest, or the trails of Devil’s Thumb Ranch or Snow Mountain Ranch.

For an easier time in the winter, look for compacted roads where the snow has been compacted by motorized vehicles. Level up and head out on a packed trail, typically compacted by snowmobiles and skiers, or challenge your skills on singletrack trails – trails created by other fat tire bikers, snowshoe users, and skiers. The trails are available year-round and offer a different set of challenges after the snow melts.
