A Lovely Trail in the Winter Park Area

Measuring in at just under a mile, Adams Falls Trail Loop begins near Grand Lake on the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park, about forty-five minutes north of Winter Park. The trail is moderately popular, with locals and visitors alike using it for walking, nature viewing, hiking, and horseback riding from June until November.

You can reach the Adams Falls Trail by turning into the Grand Lake area from Highway 34 and Trail Ridge Road, driving a little over a quart of a mile on West Portal Road, and following the left fork in the road for two miles until you reach the trailhead.

Over the course of the trail (which was constructed using natural local materials and designed to blend in with the stunning natural surroundings), you and your guests will pass through forests filled with aspens and pine trees. The trail is particularly lovely during the fall, during which time the aspens experience a brilliant color change. The highlight of the trail is Adams Falls, a fifty-five foot waterfall that you’ll come out on top of. From this vantage point, you can see the waterfall’s drop, as well as Grand Lake.

On the way back, you can continue on for another half-mile on the right fork of the trail that diverts from the parking area, enjoying the serene scenery of an expansive meadow and wildflowers, as well as the occasional moose, where East Inlet Creek meets Echo Creek.
