Why Winter Park Is the Perfect Thanksgiving Destination

There is something truly special about getting to experience visiting somewhere new for the holidays. When you are surrounded by family, you know that anywhere you go will feel just like home. Come experience a new family tradition this year by spending your Thanksgiving holiday here in Winter Park. Our Colorado home is known for exciting outdoor activities in the mountains. Come see what makes Winter Park so special as a Thanksgiving destination:

Hit the Slopes

It is no surprise that Winter Park is an ideal spot for winter sports, being nestled right in the mountains. You will be pleasantly surprised to know that when you visit for Thanksgiving this year, you will be arriving right after the season has officially kicked off for skiing. Last year’s season was the second longest season in the history of Winter Park Resort and opened on November 3rd, 2023. This year’s season may not be quite as long, but it is still expected to leave quite the impact. With Thanksgiving falling at the end of the month, you will be able to hit the slopes right when you arrive for the holiday.

Winter Park Resort offers a variety of slopes for you to explore when you the reach top of the mountain. The resort also offers a variety of difficulty levels too, so everyone can have fun on their run back down the mountain. If you are not experienced, you can always take an introductory skiing or snowboarding lesson with a professional. The resort even offers all the rental gear you need from the gear shop. You just need to arrive ready to have an absolute blast as you easily lose track of hours during your runs. Don’t forget to stop by the onsite restaurants for a bit of food and drink to keep you fueled. Your Thanksgiving holiday can be an adventure-filled getaway!

Winter Park Turkey Trot

You cannot visit somewhere new without joining the locals for the annual turkey trot. For the unaware, a turkey trot is an annual Thanksgiving race that lets participants do something healthy before indulging in a feast later in the day. Most races are 5K in length but can vary depending on where you are. Winter Park offers our very own turkey trot with the properly named Winter Park Turkey Trot. This year’s event will be our 3rd annual race and is held on Thanksgiving morning at 9:30 AM. The Winter Park Turkey Trot is a 5K run that is divided into an adult race and a kids race for ages 6 to 17; all children under the age of 6 and any friendly pups can all join for free! The race begins at 47 Cooper Creek Way, and public transportation will be provided for those nearby. The end point will be located at Vicious Cycle Brewing, where you can enjoy a post-race beverage before continuing with your holiday festivities. Participants are encouraged to pick up their race packet by Wednesday if possible. Come experience the Winter Park Turkey Trot just like a local!

Dine Out for Thanksgiving

Finding somewhere to eat on Thanksgiving is always a difficult task, especially when most businesses are closed on the holiday. Luckily, Winter Park has a few spots to check out for those who wish to skip out on a home-cooked meal. Denos Mountain Bistro is located in Downtown Winter Park and is known for their signature cut steaks. In addition to their steaks, pasta dishes, and other entrees, you can enjoy their holiday menu. Enjoy your favorite Thanksgiving dishes and sides from this premier restaurant. Naturally, making a reservation well in advance is encouraged to secure yourself a table on Thanksgiving. Another spot that is known to be open on Thanksgiving is Vertical Bistro & Tap, located inside Winter Park Resort. Many of our vacation rentals will be just a short distance away from this restaurant, making it very easy to get to. Your mouth will be watering when you see the juicy burgers and fresh salads on the menu. There are plenty of tasty appetizers to start with as well. The bar features many local craft beers on tap, so the adults can enjoy a pint or two with their meal. The options in Winter Park never seem to disappoint.
