Enjoy a Classic Summer Pastime in Winter Park

To begin, anyone interested in Winter Park fishing who is above the age of sixteen years old must keep their Colorado State Fishing License on them. These licenses can be purchased at places like Safeway, Murdoch’s, and Winter Park Trading Co. Then, you’ll want to make sure that you do not trespass on private property, and try to avoid fishing during periods of hot temperatures during the day and low-water.

Once you’ve covered your bases, a world of fantastic Winter Park fishing awaits! The Colorado River, which formed the Grand Canyon millions of years ago, has its headwaters in Grand County, on the western side of the Continental Divide inside Rocky Mountain National Park. You can fish the Colorado River from a number of access points. Several access points are located in or around Rocky Mountain National Park and Granby. At these points, you can catch trout species such as brown, rainbow, brook, and cutthroat, as well as kokanee salmon.

The Fraser River is another popular location for fishing near Winter Park, CO. At places like Berthoud Pass, Winter Park Resort, Robbers Roost Campgrounds, the Fraser River Trail, and Idlewild Campground, you can catch trout species like rainbow, brook, brown, and cutthroat. If you’re fishing with children, some great spaces to start are the Lion’s Club Ponds near Safeway, Fraser River along the Fraser River Trail, the Lower Vasquez and St. Louis Creeks, and Cozen’s Open Space Ponds near Rendezvous. Willow Creek near Granby is another gorgeous fishing spot, home to brown, brook, and rainbow trout in a secluded, largely untouched area with lots of wildlife.
