Early Summer Activities in Winter Park

If you need a getaway that includes a breath of fresh mountain air, Winter Park may be just the place for your early summer retreat. There are plenty of things to do and see, on land, in the air, and in the water. Whatever your pleasure may be, you’ll find plenty of activities in Winter Park to keep you busy throughout your stay.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

The sky is the limit. Fly high above the mountains and beautiful scenery with a hot air balloon ride from Grand Adventure. Private flights are available so it’s just you and your group flying over the sights of the Winter Park Fraser Valley area like the Continental Divide, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Fraser River. Get a good night’s sleep the night before, as all flights take off at sunrise. Flights take off at sunrise, but Colorado’s beautiful landscape and the bird’s eye view of it all, including wildlife in their natural habitat, is worth the early wake up call. Celebrate afterward with a champagne toast.

Water Sports And Other Activities in Winter Park

Colorado waters will likely still be cold in the early summer, but that doesn’t stop the water sport enthusiast. Book a whitewater adventure along the Colorado River and navigate mild to moderate (Class II and Class III) whitewater rapids. Choose a half-day or full-day rafting or kayaking trip. Pack all your water gear and store your valuables and anything you don’t want to get wet in a dry bag. If you’d prefer a calmer water experience, go for stand up paddleboarding on a less intense part of the river with a view of the water, or choose a local lake for swimming and boating sports.

Hiking

Lace up your hiking boots and pack your trail and sun gear. Set your compass for any of the hundreds of trails that take you around Winter Park and the surrounding area’s scenic landscape. There are easy hikes with little elevation change for beginners or groups with kids, all the way up to the most challenging for experienced hikers. Keep in mind some trails are bike, equestrian, and dog friendly.

Train Ride

All aboard for a different way to see even more of Colorado. Enjoy a train ride on an old-time steam or diesel locomotive on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. The railroad is only about 45 minutes from Winter Park and brings Colorado’s scenery and history to life in a way the whole group will love. The loop is only 3.1 miles long but climbs 640 feet over mountainous terrain for a breathtaking view of the area.
