Fraser River Trail is perhaps one of the most rewarding trails you can take in Winter Park given how easy of a journey it entails. Find out more information below on why Fraser River Trail should make your “to see” list of Winter Park attractions!
A Rejuvenating Experience for the Whole Family
Despite encompassing about five miles of trail (or ten miles roundtrip), Fraser River Trail makes for an incredibly easy hiking, biking, or rollerblading excursion during summers in Winter Park.
The path is paved and leads from the neighboring town of Fraser all the way to Winter Park Resort, with idyllic views stretching out beside you as you traverse through meadows, through town, alongside the Fraser River, through the Idlewild campground, and under the highway before reaching Old Town at the base of the resort. It runs parallel to Highway 40 for the entire length of the trail, allowing visitors to avoid having to walk or ride along the road.
Along the way, there are educational signs pointing out unique facts about the natural and cultural history of the area, benches to rest on and take in the sights, and picnic tables for pleasant meals in the open air. It’s also common to see spectacular creatures in the area, from beavers and birds to moose and deer. Additionally, Cozens Ranch House Museum is located along this trail, a fascinating museum dedicated to pioneer history in the area.
You can begin the trail at Winter Park Resort, in downtown Winter Park, in Fraser, or at any point in between. If at the end of your journey (five miles one way) you decide you would rather not walk back, there are shuttle busses available in Fraser and Winter Park that will take you back.
